Tuchel on the difficulty of planning for a demanding summer and being ready for the green light

With the end of our season now less than four weeks away, Thomas Tuchel has been discussing the challenges of planning for a summer transfer window with the backdrop of uncertainty over the club’s future ownership.

The Blues have seven games of 2021/22 remaining and some big targets still to reach, most notably securing Champions League qualification once again and winning the FA Cup.

Yet the Chelsea head coach admits preparations for squad management ahead of the new campaign, which would usually be well underway at this stage of the year, have been hampered by the imminent change in ownership.

Nevertheless, Tuchel insists work behind the scenes remains ongoing so that decisions can be made swiftly once the restrictions imposed by the UK Government are lifted.

‘You’re never fully sure but we would have some targets and would usually have contacted some players and found out about their situations but now our hands are tied,’ claimed Tuchel. ‘We can still have the talks inside the building but we cannot act so it’s not an ideal situation.

‘It would be challenging enough with a stable situation but we don’t have it. We try to show our commitment for it and this is very important for me to give this message. I’m looking forward to it and I’m passionate about it.

‘As soon as we can act, we will try to act and turn things around, try to turn a disadvantage into an advantage. I don’t have the solutions right now but we will try to stay positive about it.’
