Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) Extends Congratulations to New Ag. Inspector General of Police

Nigeria’s apex body of crime and investigative journalists, the Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN), has expressed its congratulations to Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun on his appointment as the Acting Inspector General of Police. The association sent its message following Egbetokun’s decoration by Vice President Kashim Shetimma on June 20, 2023.

CRAN also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for selecting Egbetokun to lead the Nigeria Police Force. Egbetokun’s predecessor, IGP Usman Baba Alkali, introduced several innovations during his tenure, making the association appreciative of Tinubu’s decision.

In a statement released by CRAN President Olalekan Olabulo and obtained by mikeosemekenew.com.ng, Egbetokun is described as a well-rounded officer who is perfectly suited for his new role as Ag. IGP. The statement further emphasizes that Egbetokun’s appointment in the Tinubu-led administration will undoubtedly highlight his commitment to excellence and diligent execution of his duties.

Olabulo also noted that Egbetokun has held various positions throughout his career, including Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos, Squadron Commander of MOPOL, Anti Fraud Unit in FCT Abuja, and Deputy Inspector General of the Force Criminal Investigations Department in Abuja.

The statement highlights that the Ag. IGP is a Mathematics graduate and former lecturer at Yaba College of Technology. It is expected that Egbetokun’s mathematical, geometric, and analytical reasoning skills will contribute to the application of cryptographic techniques in ensuring information security and data confidentiality, ultimately tackling insecurity and putting an end to criminality and terrorism in the country.

President Olabulo of the Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) added that the association will fully support the Ag. IGP’s strategic directives and critical operational initiatives aimed at combating violent crimes in Nigeria. CRAN commits to providing clear and unbiased crime reporting to aid in this endeavor.
