On April 7, 2023, the Delta State Police Command paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Onyeka Ibe, who was fatally shot by Inspector Ebri Ubi on April 5, 2023. Led by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, DCP Johnson Adenola, the command expressed their deepest sympathies to the family.
During the visit, DCP Adenola emphasized that the death of Onyeka Ibe was a great loss to the community and the police department, as he was well known to many officers of the Command and a good friend of the police. He reiterated that there was no justification for the action of Inspector Ubi, and that the command had arrested him to face disciplinary action.
DCP Adenola also assured the family that justice will be served as the internal disciplinary process, which has already commenced, will be concluded speedily as a prelude to the arraignment of the offending officer without delay. He further stated that the police force will not cover or defend any personnel who act outside their rules of engagement or involve themselves in any act of criminality.
