Breaking News: WAEC Releases 2023 WASSCE Results Amid Technological Innovations and Challenges

79% of Nigerian Students Ace WASSCE with Top Grades

In a significant stride towards educational progress, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has unveiled the long-awaited results for the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE).

Overcoming obstacles such as security concerns and cash policy intricacies, WAEC harnessed the power of technological innovation to achieve a remarkable feat: releasing more than 91 percent of candidates’ results within an impressive 44-day timeframe following the conclusion of the examinations.

Speaking passionately at a press conference held on Monday, Mr Patrick Areghan, the Head of WAEC’s Nigeria Office, expressed heartfelt joy and gratitude to the divine as he addressed media representatives at the organization’s national office in Yaba, Lagos.

He articulated, “Ladies and gentlemen of the press, it is with a sense of elation and deep appreciation to the Almighty that I stand before you today, representing the Council’s Registrar, our dedicated Management, and the entire workforce of the West African Examinations Council, WAEC, Nigeria. It is my privilege to officially announce the publication of the outcomes of the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates in Nigeria.”

Mr Areghan revealed that out of an impressive total of 1,613,733 candidates who participated in the examination, a select subset of 262,803 candidates is currently undergoing result withholding due to detected instances of examination malpractice.

He proceeded to detail the examination’s overall performance metrics: “Among the vast cohort of 1,613,733 candidates who undertook the examination, a commendable 1,361,608 candidates, constituting an impressive 84.38 per cent, have achieved credit grades and beyond in a minimum of five subjects, regardless of whether English Language and/or Mathematics are included.”

In a triumphant culmination of academic pursuits, Mr Areghan added, “Furthermore, a staggering 1,287,920 candidates, which translates to an exceptional 79.81 per cent, have attained credits and higher marks in at least five subjects, prominently encompassing English Language and Mathematics.”
