Political Turmoil in Kogi State as Governor’s Convoy Under Siege

Breaking News: Kogi State Governor’s Convoy Attacked by Suspected Political Supporters

Lokoja, Kogi State – In a shocking turn of events, the convoy of the Executive Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Alh. Yahaya Bello was forcefully blocked and attacked earlier today at approximately 12:30 PM. Reports indicate that the assailants are believed to be supporters of Alh. Muritala Yakubu Ajaka, a political figure in the region.

The attack unfolded near the Naval Base, just a few kilometres away from Lokoja. Eyewitnesses reported that upon spotting Governor Yahaya Bello’s convoy, the convoy of Muritala Yakubu Ajaka deliberately obstructed the road. The situation quickly escalated when armed individuals, suspected to be Ajaka’s thugs, began firing gunshots at the Governor’s convoy.

One notable incident involved a Tundra vehicle prominently branded with the logo of the SDP (Social Democratic Party). The SDP-flagged Tundra forcefully blocked the Governor’s car, while occupants armed with rifles and shotguns added to the chaos.

Fortunately, Governor Yahaya Bello emerged unharmed from the scene, displaying resilience and determination. However, some of his security aides and other staff members sustained varying degrees of injuries. They have been promptly transported to nearby medical facilities to receive the necessary medical attention.

In response to the incident, the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, issued a statement urging the people of Kogi State to remain calm. He assured the public that security forces were fully engaged and actively working to apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the attack. The State Government has also pledged to uphold law and order and ensure justice is served for those involved in the assault.

Governor Yahaya Bello took a firm stance, warning members of his party, the APC (All Progressives Congress), against engaging in any retaliatory actions. He emphasized that any form of insecurity, regardless of its source, will be met with severe penalties.
