The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the appointment of Amb. Umar Ililya Damagum as the Acting National Chairman of the party. This was disclosed in a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Debo Ologunagba on Tuesday, March 28, 2023.
The appointment of Damagum, who was the Deputy National Chairman (North) of the party, comes after the suspension of the National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu by a Benue High Court sitting in Makurdi on Monday. The court ordered Ayu to step aside pending the determination of the substantive suit restraining him from parading himself as the National Chairman.
The Ward Executive Committee of Ayu’s Igyorov Council Ward in Gboko local government area, Benue State, had suspended him for alleged anti-party activities and failure to pay his membership dues.
