Katsina Police tackle cattle rustling, armed robbery, kidnapping, supplies to bandits, other crimes

The spokesman for Katsina State Police Command SP Sambo Isah during a press briefing disclosed the achievements of curbing crimes in the State, he disclosed how officers of the Command dealt with cattle rustling, armed robbery, kidnapping, supplies to bandits and so on.

The spokesman to the State Command on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command CP Sanusi Buba in a statement during a press briefing held on Friday 22 October 2021 at the Command Headquarters, Katsina revealed the following criminal activities:

DEATH OF BANDITS AND RECOVERY OF RUSTLED DOMESTIC ANIMALS

On Monday 11 October 2021 at about 1:00 am, bandits in their numbers, shooting sporadically with AK 47 rifles attacked Sabon Sara village, Matazu LGA of the state and rustled an unspecified number of cows and goats. Police Patrol Team, attached to Area Commander, Dutsinma, in collaboration with personnel of the Nigerian Army were alerted and mobilized to the area. The team strategically engaged the bandits in a fierce gun duel and succeeded in neutralizing many of them. They also recovered all the rustled domestic animals from the hoodlums.

On the 6th of October 2021 at about 11:00 am, the command succeeded in arresting one (1) Alhaji Arfat Lawal, ‘m’, aged 50yrs of Dan Jibga village, Tsafe LGA, Zamfara state, along Sheme – Yankara road, Faskari LGA of Katsina state, conveying three (3) generators and six generator tanks all filled with fuel in his Green, Golf III Wagon. Similarly, one Bello Salisu, ‘M’, aged 30yrs of the same address, was arrested on the same route with a gallon filled with fuel, all reasonably suspected to be supplied to bandits hibernating in the forest. In the course of investigation, suspects confessed to the commission of the offence. Investigation is ongoing.

ARREST OF THREE (3) SUSPECTED INFORMERS AND SUPPLIERS OF ILLICIT DRUGS/INTOXICANTS TO BANDITS

On the 7th of October 2021 at about 9:30 pm, the command succeeded in arresting one (1) Benjamin Andy, ‘m’, aged 50yrs of Famfon-Mamuda Quarters, Kankara LGA of the state, in possession of varieties of beer, hot drinks and hard drugs and (2) Nafi’u Sa’adu, ‘m’, aged 60yr of Nasarawa Quarters, Kankara LGA also in possession of some quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp while (3) Abdulkadir Yahaya, ‘m’, aged 35 years was arrested in possession of hard drugs, all suspected to be supplied to bandits hibernating in the forest. In the course of investigation, suspects confessed to the commission of the offence. Investigation is ongoing.

On Tuesday 12 October 2021 at about 2:30 pm, the Command succeeded in arresting one Yusuf Aminu, ‘m’, aged 14yrs of Tsamben Dankulumbo village, Jibia LGA, a notorious bandit and a cattle rustler. In the course of the investigation, the suspect confessed to being under the command of one Maliki, a notorious bandits’ leader hibernating in the forest. He further confessed to having participated in several attacks on villages in the state which including among others: Mallamawa village, Jibia, where he shot and killed two (2) people and an unspecified cattle were rustled. Dankulumbo village, Jibia, where they rustled about five (5) cows and fifty thousand Naira (N50,000) was given to him as his own share of the proceeds. Kukar Babangida village where they rustled four (4) cows. The suspect has acquired technical skills of operating AK 47 rifle from bandits in the forest. Investigation is ongoing.

SON, A NOTORIOUS INFORMANT TO BANDITS, CONSPIRED WITH BANDITS AND KIDNAPPED HIS FATHER

On the 8 of October 2021 at about 10:00 am, one Buhari Isah, ‘M’, aged 3oyrs, of Rinjin Goro village, Matazu LGA of Katsina state, reported at Matazu Division that on 6 of September 2021 at about 8:30 pm, unknown gunmen invaded into their village Rinjin Goro and kidnapped his father, one Alhaji Isah Maigora, ‘M’, aged 60yrs to an unknown destination. He further states that he is suspecting his brother one Hamza Isah, ‘M’, aged 25yrs of the same address. The suspect was traced and arrested. In the course of the investigation, the suspect confessed to have conspired with one Auwal Magaji, ‘M’, aged 51yrs of Gidan Bukka Dissi village, Matazu LGA and gave him Talisman and other charms to burry in the house of his father to enable the kidnappers to have access to the house and kidnap the father. Suspects confessed to the commission of the offence. Investigation is ongoing.

ARREST OF A NOTORIOUS CAR THIEF, AN EX-CONVICT AND HABITUAL CRIMINAL WHO SPECIALIZES IN CARJACKING TERRORIZING KATSINA STATE

On Sunday 17 October 2021 at about 9:00 pm, the Command succeeded in arresting one Muhammed Lawal, ‘M’, aged 25yrs of Feggi Quarters, Daura, a notorious car thief, a habitual criminal and ex-convict who specializes in carjacking. Nemesis caught up with the hoodlum when he stole a motor vehicle, Toyota Camry, 2000 Model, Green in colour, with registration number ENU 531 RJNAFIU, valued nine hundred thousand Naira (N900,000), belonging to one Hassan Abdulkarim, a patient on admission at the Federal Medical Center, Katsina. In the course of investigation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the offence. Investigation is ongoing.

BUSTING/SMASHING OF A NOTORIOUS SYNDICATE OF MOTORCYCLES THIEVES TERRORIZING KATSINA METROPOLIS AND ITS ENVIRONS

On Saturday 23 October 2021 at about 3:30 pm, the Command succeeded in smashing a notorious syndicate of motorcycles thieves terrorizing Katsina metropolis and its environs. Nemesis caught up with one Habibullah Sani, ‘M’, aged 28yrs of Rafin Dadi Quarters, Katsina when he stole a motorcycle Haojoue, Robber-Robber Lucky, ash in colour, unregistered, valued one hundred and fifty Naira (N150,000:00K), property of one Jafar Ibrahim, ‘M’, of Mobil Quarters, Katsina at Samari African Hotel, Gidan Dawa, Katsina. In the course of investigation suspect confessed to the commission of the offence and mentioned one Abdullahi Hamisu, ‘M’, aged 26yrs of Masanawa Quarters, Katsina to be his accomplice, fabricator of master key and who connects him with the receiver of the stolen motorcycles, one Shamsudin of Kofar Yandaka (now at large). He further mentioned the following persons as members of his syndicate: Muhammad alias “Sunday” and one Abulele all now at large. Investigation is ongoing.

ARREST/BUSTING OF A NOTORIOUS SYNDICATE OF ARMED ROBBERS WHO SPECIALIZES IN USING POLICE AND ARMY UNIFORMS TO COMMIT CRIMES

On the 13th of October 2021 at about 7:00 am, the Command succeeded in busting a notorious syndicate of armed robbers who specializes in impersonating the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Army to rob unsuspecting members of the public of their valuables.

The fact of the case was that on the same date at about 0100hrs, suspects one Yahaya Armaya’u, alias “KOFUR”, ‘M’, aged 35yrs and Bashir Isiyaku, alias “SOJA”, ‘M’, aged 32yrs both of Yar-Kaware village, Kafur LGA of Katsina state, went to Mahangi village, Kafur LGA, in a motor vehicle Gulf, Saloon, black in colour, half-dressed in both Police and Army uniforms, attacked one Zaharadin Yau, ‘M’, of Sheka village, Kafur LGA of the state, after intimidating him with handcuff that they were policemen and robbed him of his motorcycle Boxer, valued two hundred and thirty thousand Naira (N230,000:00K).

Similarly, on 09/10/2021 at about 1900hrs, the same suspects used the same modus, attacked one Usman Sani, ‘M’, of Yari-Bori village, along Tsiga – Kuringafa road and robbed him of motorcycle, Boxer, valued two hundred thousand (N200,000:00K). In the course of the investigation, one Nura Abdullahi, ‘M’, aged 29yrs of Kafur Township was traced and arrested as an accomplice and supplier of the Army Camouflage T-shirt.

The suspect confessed to having used a similar method and robbed four (4) Boxer motorcycles at Abuja, Malumfashi and Kafur. Exhibit recovered from the suspects includes one Handcuff, one police face cap, one army Camouflage T-shirt, pair of canvas shoes and two black Jeans trousers. Investigation is ongoing.

ARREST/BUSTING OF NOTORIOUS SYNDICATE OF THIEVES AND BELONGING TO GANG OF THIEVES

On Tuesday 26 September 2021 at about 11:30 am, based on a tip-off, the Command succeeded in busting a notorious syndicate of thieves terrorizing Katsina state weekly markets. Suspects who were four in number inside Gulf III vehicle, Wagon, blue in colour tried to break and steal from a Gulf III motor vehicle, parked at the roadside of Maiadua Market and were prevented by observant members of the public. DPO Maiadua Division was alerted and the suspects zoomed up and escaped from the area.

They were intercepted by the police patrol team at Mashi LGA. Those arrested are 1. Muntari Abubakar, ‘M’, 28yrs of Gurjiya village, Daura, 2. Ali Abubakar, ‘M’, aged 45yr of Rafin Dadi Quarters, Katsina, 3. Bashir Umar, ‘M’, aged 40yrs of Rafin Dadi Quarters, Katsina, 4. Jamilu ‘M’ of Kofar Guga Quarters, Katsina (now at large). In the course of investigation, two (2) duplicates of vehicle plate numbers BR 102 ABC, ABUJA, KZR 275 XB, JIGAWA, two (2) Master keys, two (2) Axe, one (1) Triangle, one (1) GLO SIM Card, two (2) MTN SIM Cards, two (2) Airtel SIM Cards and five (5) ITEL mobile phones. The case has been charged to court.

ARREST OF SUSPECTED INFORMANTS TO BANDITS/SUPPLIERS OF NECESSITIES TO BANDITS IN THE FOREST

During the period under review, the Command carried out various sting operations at suspected bandits’ routes and hideouts at Safana, Kankara, Danja and Makera funtua which led to the arrest of suspected informants and suppliers of necessities to bandits.

At Danja Division one Samaila Rabi’u, ’M’, aged 20yrs of Fakuwa village, Kankia, a notorious bandit/cattle rustler was arrested with fifty-six (56), one (1) donkey and three (3) Goats. One Aro Najabi, ‘M’, aged 20yrs of Mazgaba, Gatakawa village Kankara LGA strongly suspected to be among the bandits that attacked Dankumeji village on 27 of August 2021.

At Safana (1) Garba Isah, ‘M’, 63yrs alias YALLE, (2) Yusuf Garba, ‘M’, aged 35yrs alias Beri (3) Kabiru Garba, ‘M’, aged 45yrs alias Mallam Kebi and (4) Nura Tukur, ‘M’, aged 28yrs alias “Kundu suspected to be supplying Petrol to bandits, collect money and deposit in the bank for the bandits and disposal of rustled animals to bandits. While 1. Ya’u Musa, ‘M’, aged 46yrs and 2. Garba Sabo, ‘M’, aged 65 yrs both of Runka village, Safana was allegedly suspected to be informants and collaborators to bandits. Investigation is ongoing.
