Femi Kuti Wants Burial By Cremation

Femi Kuti, the late Afrobeat icon Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s son, has stated that he wishes to be cremated when he dies. Kuti stated that he does not want to be buried with a big ceremony, but rather favors cremation and a small-scale burial ceremony.

During his performance at the New Africa Shrine last Sunday, the Afrobeat master revealed this.

“Please cremate me and burn my body when I die,” the 59-year-old singer said. It is the most hygienic way to dispose of it. Have you considered Ikoyi Cemetery, which has been in operation for, say, 60 years, and people die, and if they don’t die today, they will die tomorrow, and that burial ground has never been full, and if you check it, it’s not like it’s 1 million acres since I was a kid and we used to bury people there.”

Kuti and his son Made Kuti were nominated for one of the 86 Grammy Awards categories in 2022.
At the 64th Grammy Awards, Femi and Made Kuti’s collaboration work, ‘Legacy +,’ was nominated for Best Global Music Album.
