Police investigate the death of Sylvester Oromoni of Dowen College

The Lagos State Police Command is aware of the alleged death of Sylvester Oromoni, a 12-year-old schoolboy at Dowen College in Lekki, Lagos, which is now trending on social media.

In a statement to ngrDesk, Lagos Police Command spokesman CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu said, “The Command wishes to inform the public that, although no formal report of the incident was made to the police, the Commissioner of Police, upon hearing about it, immediately directed the Divisional Police Officer, Maroko Division, under whose jurisdiction the place of incident is, to immediately visit the school to carry out an initial investigation into the incident.”

As an inquiry into the situation has subsequently begun, this direction has been carried out. However, given the gravity of the situation, the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, has been asked to take over the investigation immediately.

Members of the public, particularly the deceased’s devastated parents, friends, and relatives, can be assured that the Lagos State Police Command has used all available human and material resources to investigate the tragic and terrible situation.

While a thorough inquiry is underway, members of the public are cautioned not to take the law into their own hands. They are also asked not to make any statements that might damage the inquiry.

While expressing condolences to the bereaved relatives, Commissioner of Police Hakeem Odumosu said that the findings of the police investigations would be made public in due course.
