President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting originally scheduled for Wednesday in tribute to the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Taoreed Lagbaja. General Lagbaja, who served in the position since June 2023, passed away on Tuesday night. A new date for the FEC meeting will be announced soon, the President’s office confirmed.
In addition to the meeting rescheduled, President Tinubu has ordered that flags be flown at half-staff nationwide for seven days to honour General Lagbaja’s service and dedication to Nigeria.
The President conveyed his deepest condolences to the family of the late general and the Nigerian Armed Forces, commending General Lagbaja’s commitment to national security and leadership.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, noted that these measures reflect President Tinubu’s respect for General Lagbaja’s legacy and the void left by his passing.
