At the 2024 Lagos International Trade Fair’s opening, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu emphasized Lagos State’s commitment to sustainable development, green business, and renewable energy. Represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, Sanwo-Olu highlighted the government’s dedication to reducing the state’s carbon footprint and encouraging eco-friendly practices, aligning with the fair’s theme, “Connecting Businesses, Creating Value.”
Sanwo-Olu underscored the importance of a “sustainable future,” noting that Lagos has prioritized renewable initiatives to preserve its environment. “We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint, conserving our environment, and embracing renewable resources,” he stated, emphasizing the drive to foster a greener economy in Lagos.
The governor also focused on youth development, saying that Lagos is heavily investing in education, entrepreneurship, and tech-driven growth. He called on businesses and global partners to seize investment opportunities across various sectors, positioning Lagos as a strategic hub for African economic engagement. “Lagos is open for business. We invite partners to seize opportunities in real estate, energy, finance, agriculture, and technology,” Sanwo-Olu declared.
In his welcome address, Mr Gabriel Idahosa, President of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, acknowledged the fair as a vital platform to drive sustainable growth and collaboration. With the backdrop of Nigeria’s economic challenges, Idahosa emphasized the fair’s role in fostering resilience, especially with free entry throughout the event’s 10-day duration.
The trade fair will feature extensive exhibitions and cultural displays, offering businesses a unique opportunity to connect with local and global stakeholders, while enhanced security will ensure a safe and welcoming experience.
