… Tribal Tapestry founder receives chieftaincy title of “Basetọ Ìpadàbọ̀ Sílẹ̀” at Ayanburen Palace, ushering in new era of cultural reconnection, DNA tourism, and economic opportunity
In a historic moment of ancestral return, Jon James Omobowale Olomo, an African American born in the United States and founder of Tribal Tapestry, will be formally crowned as Basetọ Ìpadàbọ̀ Sílẹ̀ of Ikorodu—Pathfinder Who Leads the Diaspora to Their Source—at the Ayanburen Palace in Ikorodu. The title is being conferred by His Royal Majesty Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, Ayangburen of Ikorodu, during a highly anticipated coronation ceremony that will also honor Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
This event marks a profound full-circle moment for Olomo, whose genealogical journey led him from the streets of America back to the roots of his royal Yoruba lineage. Through DNA analysis and oral history, he traced his ancestry to the Mosene royal family of Ikorodu, descendants of the Senlu ruling house of Imota. “I was given the name Omowale by Aare Ona Kakanfo Gani Adams, meaning ‘the child has come home,’” Olomo says. “When I discovered my roots in Ikorodu, my name evolved to Omobowale — ‘the child that the king has come to meet.’ This title makes that meaning real. It’s not just about me returning. It’s about creating a path for millions of others to return as well.”
As founder of Tribal Tapestry, Jon James Olomo has already helped hundreds of diaspora Africans trace their DNA to African tribes and families. With this new title, he plans to launch several groundbreaking initiatives from Ikorodu, including:
• An Annual Ancestry Day celebration in Lagos
• Homecoming Tours to connect African Americans with their DNA-verified tribes
• A Diaspora Genealogy Training Program to equip local Nigerians with remote income skills by serving as digital guides for global reconnection.
This is more than a symbolic return — it is the formal recognition of a long-lost son by his ancestral homeland, and the birth of a movement to reconnect the fragmented African family across oceans and generation
Tribal Tapestry is a global reconnection platform that uses DNA testing, family trees, and cultural restoration to reunite African Americans with their African tribes, relatives, and ancestral homelands.
