A new coronavirus disease, COVID-19, has been discovered in France; the variant is named IHU. As of the time of this report, 12 people have been infected near Marseilles in southern France.

According to health professionals, IHU has 46 mutations, which is more than the Omicron variant. Meanwhile, IHU is believed to have traveled to Cameroun in Africa.

The novel strain has yet to be detected in other nations, and the World Health Organization (WHO) has not classified it as a variety under study. It has not added any strains to the list since November 2021, when it introduced omicron.

In the last two weeks, the number of new COVID-19 cases in the United States has tripled to over 400,000 per day, the highest amount on record, as more Americans race to get tested. The high infection rates and related workforce shortages place a significant strain on enterprises of all sizes. In recent days, thousands of airline flights have been canceled. Many businesses have put return-to-work preparations on hold.

According to the CDC, Omicron accounted for 95% of new coronavirus infections in the United States last week. On Monday, the number of new cases in the United States surpassed one million.
