Youths should be given concession in politics – Wale Ogunade

By Oluwatope Lawanson

The President of Voters Awareness Initiative (VAI), Mr. Wale Ogunade, says youths should be given concession in politics and governance  to avoid any vacuum when it is their time

Ogunade reacted to Nigeria’s 61st independence anniversary broadcast by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Buhari had said that youths remained propellants for today and provided guarantees that Nigeria would have a secure tomorrow.

Ogunade urged the Federal Government to further open the space for youths to participate in politics and governance.

“Youths have proved themselves to be very important in national development, especially the ones that are involved in productive activities,” the lawyer said.

He said that the concession was important because of activities of moneybags.

The VAI president said that it would not be too good to approve that youths could run for political positions without giving them the space to practice ‘the trade’.

“Youths should not be discouraged or dissuaded from being in governance; otherwise, there will be a vacuum when it is their time.

“They must learn the ropes and must be involved at all levels of governance.

“The space must be open, and during primaries, they must be given concession,” he said.

In the broadcast, Buhari said he remained focused on expanding opportunities for the participation of youths in politics and governance.

He said that recent appointments of young people into positions of authority and their track records so far had given him confidence that more of them could be brought into governance. (NAN)
