Subsidy Removal: Kwara Joint Labour Congress Abandons Proposed Protest

The Joint Kwara Labor Congress is made up of members of the Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and others who had previously organized a statewide demonstration in the state against the federal government’s intended subsidy elimination, but the federal government has shelved the plan.

The Chairman of the Congress, Issa Ore, who is also the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), disclosed this at a news congress shortly after an emergency congress in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

Ore stated that the union made the decision based on the fact that the federal government has suspended its plan to increase the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), with the assurance that the union will not hesitate to mobilize its members against the anti-people measures.

Ore further claims that if the federal government fails to keep its word, the union will continue with the demonstration.

Idea Ore, the NLC Chairman, also praised the union members, associated unions, and civil society organizations for their tenacity.
