Sen Bukola Saraki, Former Senate President

Saraki challenges politicians to give priority to the health sector

The immediate past Senate President and Presidential Aspirant in the forthcoming 2023 general elections, Bukola Saraki, has challenged Nigerian politicians to give urgent and serious attention to the health sector with a view to improving the life expectancy of Nigerians.

Saraki made the call in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on the sideline of his 59th birthday while enrolling about one thousand beneficiaries of the state into the Kwara state health insurance scheme free of charge for the next year.

He, however, lamented over the poor situation of the country’s health sector, which he attributed to the poor political will of the nation’s leaders, saying the development has affected the life expectancy of Nigerians and must not be allowed to continue.

He also said that in 2018 he was able to implement a 1% consolidated revenue fund into a basic health care fund to support the healthcare sector.

Saraki is of the view that every Nigerian, regardless of their class or status must have access to basic healthcare both at the local and state levels without stress to guarantee a healthy population.
