Rising Inflation Sparks Debate: Is President Buhari’s Administration to Blame?

President Buhari’s Administration Denies Responsibility for Rising Inflation in Nigeria

The office of the Presidency has firmly rejected claims that President Muhammadu Buhari’s government should be held accountable for the escalating inflation rate in Nigeria. Malam Garba Shehu, the president’s spokesperson, addressed these assertions in response to media reports linking the rise in inflation to the current administration.

On Monday, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) published its latest report, which unveiled the consumer price index (CPI) indicating the rate of price fluctuations in goods and services. According to the report, the CPI surged to 22.22 per cent in April 2023, a slight increase from the previous month’s 22.04 per cent.

This recent uptick in April marks the fourth consecutive rise in Nigeria’s inflation rate since the beginning of the year.
