The Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), retired Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, has issued a warning to police officers to avoid getting involved in land disputes and debt collection. Arase made the statement when he received the national leadership of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in his office on Thursday.
Arase also pledged to work in partnership with the Inspector General of Police to reinvigorate the Nigeria Police Force for better performance. He noted that for the Police to excel in its day-to-day operations, there must be consequences for misconduct and benefits for exemplary behaviour.
During the meeting, Arase stressed that benefits and burdens must go together, adding that he will complement what the Police is currently doing to ensure that its operations conform with its rules of engagement. He also acknowledged his concern over the increasing cases of human rights abuses by the Police.
The National Chairman of the Committee, Mogaji Ibrahim Olaniya, commended Mr President for his appointment and congratulated Arase on his new role. Olaniya also announced that the Committee was celebrating its 39th anniversary on May 8th, 2023, and invited Arase to join the celebration. Finally, Olaniya made a case for a special promotion for deserving Police Officers to encourage them to put more effort into the Commission.
