The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has advised his colleagues to stop talking to the press in a way that sends wrong signals to the public.
He made the appeal after the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege raised a point of order over a recent television interview granted by the Minority leader of the Senate, Enyinnaya Abaribe, bordering on the 3% profit sharing to host Communities contained in the Petroleum Industry Act.
Omo-Agege alleged that in the said interview, Abaribe accused the APC Caucus of the National Assembly of sabotaging the initial proposal of 5% profit sharing to host Communities.
The DSP also expressed worry over his colleague’s statement, stressing that such a comment was in breach of his privilege and that of other members especially as the decision was not partisan but unanimous.
In a remark, the President of the Senate noted that there is still room for Amendment of the Petroleum Industry Act in areas citizens feel less satisfied.

Senator Lawan also advised lawmakers, who were not satisfied with the decision to revisit the PIA and seek an amendment rather than explore unproductive means to mislead Nigerians.
However, Senator Abaribe was not present at Plenary to respond to the queries levelled against him.
