Talking about the result after the game, star midfielder Pedri said: “We wanted to win this match for the crowd. We’re very optimistic.”

The youngster added that the team are very excited for the start of the season and are looking forward to challenging and winning trophies. “We’re very excited for the start of the season. We are Barça, we are always looking for titles, especially this season,” he said.

Talking about playing alongside a striker of Lewandowski’s calibre, Pedri said: “It’s a luxury to play with Lewandowski. He’s always looking to score. My understanding with Lewandowski is normal. I’m trying to look for it.”

The Spanish international also hailed president Joan Laporta and other club officials for the work they had put in to sign some top players this summer, saying: “The president and the whole staff have done very well to bring the new signings.”

Barcelona will begin the new La Liga campaign next weekend with a clash against Rayo Vallecano and fans will hope to see Pedri and Lewandowski continue in the same vein of form.
