No More Limits: OPM Church Leads the Way in Fighting Gender Inequality in Okrika
Gender inequality has long been a pervasive issue in many societies, with women often being denied the opportunity to receive an education or pursue their own career goals. For Mary Osarobe, a woman from Okrika, Rivers State, this was a reality she faced from a very young age.
Growing up, Mary’s father believed that women were meant for marriage and cooking, and so he refused to educate his female children beyond primary school. When Mary’s father died, her mother continued with his wish, and Mary was eventually given away to a man who promised to marry her but left her pregnant and alone.
Despite these challenges, Mary always longed to receive an education and achieve her dreams. And thanks to the establishment of the first free adult education program in Okrika by the OPM Church, her wish has finally come true.

The OPM Free Adult Education program, fully funded through tithes and offerings in the church, has given Mary and many others like her the opportunity to pursue their education and transform their lives. Mary has successfully enrolled in the program, and is now on her way to achieving her goals.
The establishment of this program has the potential to change the lives of countless individuals in Okrika and beyond, providing access to education and breaking down barriers to gender equality. As Mary herself says, “All thanks to God.”
