On Thursday, Olanrewaju Omiyinka, alias Baba Ijesha, a Nollywood actor, was given a 16-year prison term by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offenses Court.
Six counts of child defilement are brought against Baba Ijesha, including sexual assault, attempted sexual assault by penetration, and indecent treatment of a minor.
The crimes violate the Lagos State Criminal Law 2015’s Sections 135, 137, 261, 202, 262, and 263, which mandate life in prison for offenders.
The actor refuted the charges. In court, CCTV footage showing their relationship was played. The victim was allegedly an underage girl.
The Hon. Justice Taiwo, who rendered the ruling, stated that the prosecution failed to establish the defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
