The convicted fake LASTMA Officer was arraigned by LASTMA on two charges of impersonating a public officer by representing himself as a staff of LASTMA and obtaining money through fraudulent trickery. These charges contravened the Criminal Law of Lagos State (2015).

In a statement released by the Director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, Magistrate Kehinde Ogundare sentenced Omotutu Bamidele to two years in jail without any option of a fine after he pleaded guilty to the charges.

The Court Prosecutor, Barr. Olufemi Adekunle, emphasized that the gravity of the offenses committed by the convict warranted a jail term without the option of a fine.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, welcomed the judgement and stated that it would serve as a deterrent to others who are still extorting money from innocent members of the public under false pretense. He also urged motorists, especially commercial bus operators, to adhere strictly to the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law 2018 and avoid attacking officers of the agency.

Mr. Oreagba further noted that the Monitoring and Surveillance Unit of LASTMA, which has now been fully restructured, would continue to hunt for other bad elements disturbing the peace of society.
