Jess Carter: Motivation to win the league can get us over the line

Chelsea FC Women’s Jess Carter has claimed that a combination of adrenaline and motivation will be key as the Blues search for a third consecutive Barclays FA Women’s Super League title.

If Emma Hayes’ side win our remaining two league fixtures, the Blues will be crowned WSL champions for the third year in a row following a tight race to the top with Arsenal.

The first of those two fixtures start today with a trip to the Midlands to take on Birmingham City, before we host Manchester United at Kingsmeadow on the final day of the season.

It’s a quick turnaround for Hayes’s side, who have recorded two victories over Tottenham Hotspur in the past seven days, most recently at Kingsmeadow on Thursday evening.

Speaking on the win against Spurs, Carter said: ‘It was massive! Obviously it was a tough game, it’s been a tough week so for us to manage to get three points out of that was really important and it’s just a great step in the right direction.’

Our No.7 says the team are in a good place as we edge closer to the final two league fixtures of the campaign, adding: ‘We’re quite confident. We’re in a good place right now but we’re well aware that we’ve still got two tough games and the pressure is on because we have to win them both.

‘We’re well aware that they are two very different opponents but we’ve got to be on our A-game to be able to get three points from both games.’

Carter will be facing her former team this evening, however won’t be holding back on the pitch.
