The House of Representatives is working on legislation that would exempt the Nigeria police force from the contributory pension scheme.
The bill sponsored by representative Ejiroghene Waive seeks amendment of section five subsection one of the pension reform act.
The amendment would ensure proper remuneration at retirement and improved welfare for police personnel.
The bill received overwhelming support from other house members who argued that the police force should be part of the same pension scheme as their counterparts in the military and intelligence agencies.
