FRSC Vows to go Tough on Overloaded Vehicles

The Federal Road Safety Corps Lagos Sector Command decries increase in the rate at which motorists overload their vehicles in the State.

The Sector Commander FRSC Lagos Sector Command, Corps Commander Olusegun Ogungbemide stated that despite the warnings by the Corps and other agencies on the need to avoid overloading of vehicles, different categories of vehicles still violate this warnings. This was contained in a report from the Corps spokesman, Olabisi Sonusi today.

He said motorists when arrested henceforth will be prosecuted according to National Road Traffic Regulations (NRTR) 2012, Regulation 118 (6) “Where a vehicle is overloaded and the load is considered to be loaded abnormally, it shall be off-loaded at the weigh bridge station unless special and safety precautions are taken and the registered owner of the vehicle shall be required to pay a prescribed fee for each overloaded axle or for the excess gross weight”.

He however, warned all drivers to desist from the act of overloading as this is one of the crash causing offences that FRSC would never overlook.

The sector commander further admonishes members of the public to make it a service to the nation by promptly reporting any overloading infraction to the nearest FRSC formation or contact 08077690201 or Toll free 122 for immediate apprehension rather than celebrating such on Social media.
