Police assure Ladipo Market Traders of Peace

CP Owohunwa: Lagos Police Tighten Security in Response to Recent Market Attacks

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Idowu Owohunwa, has assured traders at the Ladipo Auto Market in Mushin and other markets in the state of adequate security. The police boss made the promise during his visit to the Ladipo Auto Market on Friday, where he met with the market leadership to have a firsthand assessment of the place.

CP Owohunwa disclosed that more uniform and plainclothes officers had already been deployed to the market and others in the state. He urged the traders to be peaceful and law-abiding, and never to take the law into their hands. The police commissioner emphasized that the command’s attention had been drawn to the market places in the state, calling on the traders to always provide timely useful information about strange movements and gatherings to the police.

The President General of the Ladipo International Market, Mr. Jude Nwankwo, appreciated the CP for the visit and commended him for his concern and proactiveness in ensuring the security of the traders and businesses in Ladipo market. He specifically praised Owohunwa for deploying more men to the market, stating that such security presence has given confidence to traders and customers at the biggest auto spare parts market in West Africa.

The traders also commended the Area Commander Zone D Mushin and the Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in charge of the area for their professionalism at all times.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that goods worth millions of naira were burnt down by unidentified arsonists who invaded Akere Motor Parts and Allied Dealers Market in the Olodi-Apapa area of Lagos State on Wednesday. The incident claimed the life of one Baba Hakeem, the security guard for the taxi park beside the market and was said to have been perpetrated by masked men.
