CoAS seeks exemption from envelope budget system

Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General FAROUK YAHAYA has called on the Nigerian Senate to prevail on the federal ministry of Budget and National Planning to exempt the Nigerian Army from the subsisting envelope budgetary system.

YAHAYA, while speaking during the budget defence for the 2023 estimates before the Senate Committee on Army, said that the envelope budget system is slowing down the fight to rid Boko Haram and other criminal elements in the country.

This is as the Nigerian Army proposed the sum of N710 billion for its 2022 budget estimates.

The Chief of Army Staff also expressed the commitment of the Nigerian Army to securing the territorial integrity of Nigeria from any violation.

The chairman senate committee on Army, Ali NDUME, also criticised the executive arm for forwarding to the National Assembly on a yearly basis, an envelope budget system for the Nigerian Army.

The Borno Senator who has been vocal about the federal troop’s incapacity to win the Boko Haram war, said the National Assembly will take strategic steps in ensuring that the pocket of the Army does not dry of funds again.

Senator NDUME Ali also called on NIGERIANS to give the Nigerian Army the desired support needed in their operations by sharing actionable information that will aid their operations.
