Barcelona give up on signing Jules Kounde, player expected to move to Chelsea

According to a recent report published by the very reliable Helena Condis of COPE, Barcelona have given up on signing Jules Kounde from Sevilla. They had never made an official offer for the player, who is now expected to join Chelsea.

Sevilla had demanded a transfer fee of upwards of 60 million Euros to sell Kounde, a figure Barcelona are finding extremely difficult to match. While they had an agreement with the player, nothing was agreed with the club.

Yesterday, it was reported that Kounde’s decision to join Sevilla’s training camp late was a result of him holding out for Barcelona. He was, however, open to joining Chelsea, too.

This came hand-in-hand with Sevilla’s decision to offload him as soon as possible in the hopes of signing a replacement.

Joan Laporta has openly admitted that Barcelona will be looking to reinforce the backline after completing moves for Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski. With their top target as good as gone now, though, who will the club have on their radar?
