Bandits Ambush and Kill 12 Security Personnel in Kaduna State Mining Site Attack

In a tragic event on Monday, January 9th, 2023, bandits ambushed and killed seven personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) as well as five others from a sister security agency and local security service. The personnel, who were attached to the Kaduna State Ministry of Mines, were on official duty at a mining site in Birnin Gwari LGA of Kaduna State when the attack occurred.

According to reports, the attack took place at around 10:00am at the Kuriga mining site in Birnin Gwari LGA of Kaduna State. The bandits not only killed the personnel but also carted away their riffles. The remains of the slain officers and men have since been recovered and deposited at the Barau Diko Hospital in Kaduna.

The Commandant General of the NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has described the incident as a huge loss to the Corps, the families of the victims and the nation. In a statement, Dr. Audi extended his condolences to the families and friends of the deceased and prayed that God grant them the strength to bear the irreplaceable loss.

As a mark of respect for the slain personnel, the Commandant General has ordered that the Corps’ flag be hoisted at half-mast and that a national prayer involving both Christians and Muslims be organized at the Corps’ National headquarters in Abuja. The prayer is intended to seek God’s protection for all officers and men of the Corps in the new year and to prevent a recurrence of such a tragic incident.
