Gift Oloku, a 22-year-old student at the Delta State Polytechnic in Ozoro, was murdered by her lover over an iPhone.
On Saturday, July 16, 2022, the event took place at the Etevie quarters in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area of the state.
The dead was allegedly killed with a machete by the suspect, 23-year-old Godspower Adegheji.
The suspect has been taken into custody, according to DSP Bright Edafe, the State Police Command’s spokesperson, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday.
Edafe claims that the suspect murdered Gift after accidentally breaking his iPhone while they were arguing.
“This is Godspower Adegheji of Etevie quarters Ozoro, a man of 23yrs, he killed his girlfriend Gift Oloku ‘f’ aged 22yrs in ozoro using a machete after she mistakenly broke his IPhone 11pro max while they were fighting cos she went out without telling him. He has been arrested,” the spokesperson stated.”
The Nation reports that the incident began on Saturday night when the suspect accused the dead of being unfaithful after she left without telling him. An argument ensued between them, which ultimately resulted in her death.
On Sunday morning, the suspect brought the body to the State General Hospital, where it was determined that the victim had passed away.
A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “It happened today (Saturday) at Ozoro.” A guy beats his girlfriend to death with a machete. People said he was so high that he didn’t do it with his clear eyes because he didn’t run away after killing her; instead, he rushed her to a general hospital.
“I just confirmed that the girl is a student at the school, but the guy is not.” Maybe he has graduated. The guy must have been on drugs last night. It was this morning that the guy regained himself. “After seeing what he had done, he rushed the girl to the hospital.”
The deceased’s lifeless body was seen on a stretcher while the suspect was being flogged by a mob in video footage that has been circulating online.
