Senate President Ahmed Lawan

2023 Presidency: Report of Lawan Stepping Down For Tinubu Mischievous – Dr. Suleiman Audu

On Monday, Dr. Suleiman Audu, a member of the Ahmed Lawan campaign committee, dismissed allegations that the Senate President had resigned in favor of former Lagos State Governor Bola Tinubu.

“Senate President, Ahmed Lawan steps away from the presidential run, pledges to support and collapse his political system for APC frontline Aspirant, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” according to an online report currently circulating on social media platforms.

In a statement, Audu denounced the report as “sheer mischief” planted by those seeking the APC presidential ticket through deception.

“Our attention has been drawn to an online publication indicating that Senate President, Distinguished Senator Ahmed Lawan, has stepped aside in favor of former Lagos State Governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the APC presidential ticket,” he added.

“The report is pure slander, produced by individuals seeking to acquire the APC ticket by deception.” Ahmed Lawan is in the race to win, just to be clear. Tinubu should be the one to step down in his place. It is unjust for the South-West to consider contesting the 2023 presidential election after 8 years of power under President Olusegun Obasanjo and another 8 years as Vice President.

“For equality, justice, and fairness, Tinubu should be patriotic enough to step down for Senate President.” As an elder statesman, we expected him to demonstrate understanding by supporting either the South-East or the North-East geopolitical zones. He still has time to support Senator Ahmed Lawan for President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor in 2023.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Ahmed Lawan is eminently qualified for the APC presidential ticket as a representative of the North-East geopolitical zone, which has yet to produce a president since 1999, and as the most engaging and results-oriented senate president since 1999.”

“Tinubu should prioritize his health, peace, unity, and national progress over his personal interests,” he said.
