2022 BUDGET: Communications Ministry receives N160Billion allocation

The federal ministry of Communications and digital economy has proposed a total of N160 billion in the 2022 budget as against a total of N129.59bn allocated to the ministry from 2016 to 2021.

Minister of Communications and digital economy, Isa Pantami who appeared before the joint senate and house of representatives committee on Communications, ICT and Cybercrimes for budget defence disclosed the ministry’s budget estimates.

According to the Minister, ICT’s contribution is one of the fastest-growing components of the country’s GDP and is emerging as its most important long-term growth prospect.

The joint senate and house of representatives committee on Communications, ICT and Cybercrimes chaired by senator Oluremi TINUBU commended Pantami for his landmark achievements of the digital economy sector, achieving a lot as minister of Communications and digital economy as tasked with additional coordinating responsibilities.

In the meantime, the Minister of Communications has revealed plans to unbundle the Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST).

He said the plan is to unbundle Nipost into property and development, logistics, courier and a microfinance company.

He also said the unbundling of NIPOST had reached advanced stages, with almost 90% work done.
